Check Engine Codes

If you should experience a check engine light, it will most likely be blinking. The blinks represent codes. They will be long or short, count the blinks to get the code. Code reference is below.

To read the codes, use the procedure below. The SCS service connector tool is not really a special tool, its just a piece of stiff wire. A large paper clip with the tips sanded would suffice to short the wires in the plug.

To clear DTC codes from the PGM-FI module do this:

  1. Locate the diagnostic connector under the drivers seat

  2. Short the brown/red and green wires, a breadboard wire or even a paperclip can be used.

  3. Turn the key to the ON position

  4. Remove the short and watch for the check engine light (CEL) to come back on

  5. When the CEL lights up, reinsert the short.

  6. The CEL will start blinking to indicate it is clearing codes.

  7. If this procedure does not work, try it again, or whatever the code was it is still active.
