Unable to Move

Honda Talons are very sensitive to system voltage. The transmission uses electrical power to shift and to operate the clutches. If the battery voltage is too low to drive the vehicle, you will get some combination of warning light on the dash that will always include the power steering warning light.

If this happens, turn off the Talon and connect a battery charger to it for a while.

If a battery charger is unavailable, place it in park and then run the engine at 4000 to 5000 rpm for up to 10 minutes until the lights go off.

If the lights do not go off, chances are you have a bad main battery. This is a good time to have a second battery.

How to shunt in a secondary battery as your main:

  1. In your battery box, disconnect the main battery ground wire, the box is tight you may wish to wrap it in electrical tape.

  2. On your isolator, remove the second battery from its terminal and place it on the same terminal as the primary battery connection.

Stalling on take-off

Check the following:

  • Air filter (dirty air filter or clogged pre-filter can cause issues)

  • Air intake horns (occasionally a rag gets left in there....)

  • Spark plug wires (clean and grease them)

  • Spark plugs

  • Clutch cover electrical connectors (if these are an issue you will usually get a low oil pressure light)
