Key-On Accessory Power

The Honda Talon's 999cc twin is factory equipped with a 750 watt stator. The vehicle itself uses around 400 watts of that power to run the transmission, power steering, i4wd module, etc.

There is roughly 35 amps of power available for accessories without draining the battery.

The most common question is getting a Key-On power source set up. Easiest way is to use XTC's excellent Key-On Busbar. It uses the factory pre-installed winch cables and the capped off factory horn power connector under the hood to provide a relay driven and fuse protected 35 amp key-on output on a bus bar. This is a very easy to install kit.

You can also use one of the 6 or 8 gang switch units from Amazon/eBay, they are sold under different names, but all the same maker. I use one of these from Amazon. It has a key-on trigger line built in, you can connect that to the horn power plug and skip the XTC busbar. If you do not want to cut in the power connector there, you can purchase this pigtail to connect to it from the Honda SxS Club. I make an overhead roll bar mount for the switch panel you can buy here.
